CySEC, the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, is the regulator for this Cyprus Investment Firm (CIF, MiFID II) authorisation, which can be passported across the EU/EEA. Its legal basis is the Investment Services and Activities and Regulated Markets Law of 2017 (Law 87(I)/2017). Market sources describe prior written notification to CySEC for anyone proposing to acquire or increase a qualifying holding reaching or crossing 10%, 20%, 30% or 50%, or to gain control that makes the firm a subsidiary, citing Sections 12 and 13 of Law 87(I)/2017 and MiCA Article 83. The same sources report that CySEC acknowledges receipt within two working days and has 60 working days to oppose on grounds of reputation, financial soundness, AML risks and fit-and-proper criteria, and the period can be interrupted once, by 20 working days at most (30 for non-EU entities), to request more information. Absence of a written objection before expiry is reported as deemed approval, and closing without non-opposition is reported to suspend voting rights and risk statutory penalties. The entity card on CySEC's register shows whether the supervisory status is Active, Suspended or Under Examination for voluntary renunciation.
