Paying interest or any monetary return linked to client fund balances is strictly prohibited under this status. Governed by Republic of Lithuania Law on Electronic Money and Electronic Money Institutions No XI-1868, Art. 13, Art. 22 and Art. 25, this status is an Electronic money institution licence (elektroninių pinigų įstaigos licencija) for non-limited activity. The Bank of Lithuania supervises the institution. Authorised activities cover issuing electronic money, issuing e-money tokens, cash placement or withdrawal on payment accounts, execution of payment transactions with or without a credit line, issuing payment instruments, acquiring payment transactions and money remittance. Cross-border reach allows passporting to all 30 EU/EEA member states after notification forwarded within one month by the supervisor. Beyond the European single market, this authorisation does not convey regulatory rights. Legal boundaries also prevent asset transfers, meaning that any change of ownership must proceed through a corporate share transaction. Failure to commence business within 12 months of grant or falling dormant for more than 6 consecutive months exposes the authorisation to revocation. Before signing, the buyer checks the public register to confirm the licensing status among the 70 authorised entities counted on 2026-09-24.
